Civic Forum on Housing and Habitat Zambia pioneered the hosting of the Zambia Housing Symposium which it hosted with its network members across the country annually since 2012. The Symposium created a platform for engaments between rights holders and duty bearers to discuss housing and Habitat challenges and identity practical solutions. It was through the lobby and advocacy interventions of this platform that Zambia began its journey towards housing policy reforms and began stakeholders engagements to review the 1996 housing policy. The process culminated into development of the 2020 National Housing Policy and the 2021 National Land Policy. It was yet another exciting moment to participate and be on the panel of technocrats during the 2024 National Housing Forum under the theme: Unlocking,Strengthening, and positioning the HOUSING VALUE CHAIN TOWARDS AFFORDABLE AND DECENT HOUSING FOR ALL BY 2030 that attracted local and international participants from the housing and finance sectors across the globe. CFHHZ was on the panel of discussants that looked at Innovations in building materials, Technologies and designs for affordable housing. The panel included Arc. Bwalya Masabo -Zambia Institute of Architects, Mr Mabuse Halele – Group Sales Director- Hydroform International, Eng Fabian Banda – TDAU, Mr Peter Kabwe – Council Member- Zambia Institute of Architects. It was a learning point of how other countries have scaled up efforts in using alternative building methods to address the housing deficit and address climate shocks through resilient climate smart infrastructure. CFHHZ urged the Zambian Government, World Bank and other partners to support research and technology towards addressing housing challenges as a parameter of closing up development challenges.. World Bank was urged to support the P5 to P10 group to be considered for financial support to access decent housing. CFHHZ extends its sincere gratitude to the organisers and all the partners that made this event possible.
